THEATRICAL HEADSHOTS
Theatrical and commercial Headshot photography is one of my favorite things to shoot as I was an actor in my twenties and that's how I started out as a photographer. I used to photograph my friends commercial and theatrical headshots to practice and then random people on the street would ask me to photograph their theatrical headshots. I am very empathetic to my clients when they are trying to get the best commercial headshot photograph to represent them as an actor. It can be very stressful and I remember my stress as it was when headshot photographers only had film so you had like 4 rolls of film with 24 exposures at best to get the best headshot you could. I would have to save for months to afford a theatrical headshot photography session so I would be very anxious during the setting. The good news is with digital we can photograph you until we get it so no pressure! I understand so I go out of my way to make you comfortable and laugh so you are not in your head and get the best theatrical or commercial headshot possible!
Choosing a Location and Wardrobe for your Theatrical Headshot Photography Session
The best background for your commercial and or theatrical headshot shoot is a neutral background that I can blur out using bokah techniques in my camera settings. I shoot at a depth of field of 1.8 or 2.8 in my aperture settings so that your eyes pop because that is the utmost important thing in headshot photography. As for wardrobe, please bring a couple of changes with you. I always say one super casual one business casual and one that is black to add some drama. I suggest using solid colors as patterns and whites draw attention away from you and your eyes. You want to be the center of attention in your headshot so wear clothing that enhances your eyes and skin coloring. If your a redhead greens are always great and if you are blonde, then blues and blacks look fantastic. I photograph theatrical and commercial headshots in the San Francisco bay area which includes Oakland, Berkeley, Petaluma, San Rafael, Mill Valley, Palo Alto, San Jose, Santa Rosa, Napa and Sonoma.
